Lull

2001

Beginning as a double bill with iconic Sydney performer Drew Fairley, poetry cabaret Lull premiered at the Stables Theatre in Darlinghurst in 2001 and was invited to showcase in the Women and Theatre Program at New York University (NYU) in 2003 (with Rae C. Wright and Amanda Selwyn).

adventurous and pushing the envelope… rewarding.

Lull is created, performed and composed by Elena Knox with Tim Dowley on turntables, Ed Goyer on drums, James Haselwood on bass, and photomedia by Rowena Hall. Lull toured solo by Elena Knox with additional music by CODA.

Elena created lyrical and disturbing images of disease, desire, and longing as she crafted her poetry to music and distorted her body. Elena's poetry was a visceral exploration of a young woman's body labouring under different cultural stereotypes.
Ann Elizabeth Armstrong, WTP Journal

Lull is Elena Knox, and her material mixes song, spoken word and hip hop stylings in an arresting and fascinating mélange… there are some startling lines and intriguing juxtapositions in this… Knox is generically crossing cabaret styles with performance art… a far more edgy and risky proposition.

Lull received travel funding from the Australia Council for the Arts.
